This textile cushion is a unique combination of contemporary design and traditional craftsmanship; handmade in Nagaland, India, by a women's cooperative.
The cooperative abides by the traditional ethos of fabric making that their forefathers have practiced down the ages. therefore, not only are these cushions handwoven but also hand sewn. The fabric is used 'off the loom' with minimal, and where possible, zero waste.
The co-op is a Design initiative to encourage women of Nagaland to sustain their roots, giving them the wings of newfound freedom and bring about a social change, to encourage one another and mentor the young girls, keeping the craft alive. They aim to preserve and promote the loin loom khadi fabric and the eco-system that produced it. As a social objective, they provide employment and facilitate women to empower themselves.
