Stunning antique Japanese Boro Furoshiki wrapping cloth.
Naturally dyed in indigo with katazome, a stencil resist dye technique. Rice paste is painted on with a stencil to create a 'Mon' or family crest. Most of the family crest has worn off now, as you can see on the photos.
This textile has been heavily mended with patchwork and a traditional Japanese hand stitch technique called sashiko.
